Sket Comes Out on DVD

Having gained some headlines back in autumn for its portrayal of young women pulled into London gangs, Sket is fresh out on DVD today. We supervised the post production and co-produced this film with Gateway Films and Gunslinger. The film is available on DVD, Blu-Ray, iTunes and On Demand.

In other news, Adam Deacon’s win at the BAFTA awards last month continues to gain attention, particularly from the meme generators. Naughty! We’re looking forward to seeing his performance in Outside Bet when it hits cinemas on April 27th.

Alex’s article for the Telegraph has reached an audience over the other side of the Atlantic. John Roach has been working with students at Georgia State University, experimenting with the psychology of sound. John referenced Alex’s article with an interest in the art of Foley and creative approaches in film sound. John and Alex have since got in touch with one another, exchanging ideas in sound exploration and human perception of our natural and man-made aural environment. It will be interesting to see what develops.

Last but not least, we are in the process of moving… more to be revealed next week. Rest assured, it’s exciting!

    Adam Deacon Rising Star

Last night Covent Garden’s Royal Opera House hosted the 2012 British Academy Film Awards and here at Creativity Media, we had our fingers crossed for a London born and bred actor, writer and director nominated in the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star category.

The co-writer, lead actor and director of Anuvahood, and one of the stars of forthcoming feature Outside Bet, Adam Deacon successfully took home the award voted by members of the public and his loyal fanbase of ‘Deaconettes’. His acceptance speech demonstrated his enthusiasm in inspiring a new generation of creative talents from all backgrounds, a later interview expresses his interest in mixing up roles and crossing cultural divides.

Here’s his acceptance speech. We’re all absolutely thrilled for him, may this be the first of many.

    The Hidden Side of Sport

We’re reaching the close of January and it’s already been a hectic start to the year. Post production is in progress on Kieron Hawkes’ dark thriller Piggy and we’re looking forward to commencing work on Fast Girls, Get Lucky and our own production The List.

A fortnight ago, Freddie Flintoff: The Hidden Side of Sport was broadcast on BBC1 and resulted in much discussion on the both the prevalence and impact of depression upon male sporting athletes, and the consequences upon their mental health and sporting capabilities of keeping their condition ‘in the dark’. Former England cricketer Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff interviewed a number of retired and active sporting greats as well as members of the public who are using sport as a recreational means of combating their depression.

The resulting discussion on Twitter, Facebook and within the media brought the subject of depression within the sporting arena (particularly upon men) into the light. The frankness of these discussion mirrored the manner in which both the interviewees in the documentary, and Flintoff himself, opened up about their own experiences and the regret in which they suffered in silence.

Creativity Media provided post production services on this documentary for production company Fullwell 73.
